POLICE are working on a photofit of the suspect who splashed acid on footballer Faisal Halim, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said.

He said police will also send the fingerprints they lifted from the scene for analysis.

“For the time being, the CID led by Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, will produce the photofit and from there, we will be able to gather even more information.

“We will send the fingerprints lifted from the shopping mall for analysis as well,” he told reporters after attending the Autism Day event at the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)/Pengaman Autism Centre in the Police Training Centre (Pulapol).

He said more than 12 individuals have had their statements recorded in relation with the case, including from Faisal’s family members, doctors and others.

Faisal, who plays for Selangor, suffered an acid attack at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara on May 5.

The motive for the attack is still being investigated.

Images of his injury had gone viral on social media and many netizens were in shock that such an incident could happen to a national football player.

Days before Faisal was attacked, his Harimau Malaya teammate Akhyar Rashid was robbed in Kuala Terengganu and suffered cuts and bruises.

On the night of May 7, former national captain Safiq Rahim escaped unhurt after two men broke the rear windscreen of his car in Johor Baru.

The 36-year-old, who plays for Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), revealed the incident on his social media account by posting a police report.

Police are investigating to ascertain if all three incidents were linked. – May 11, 2024.
