THE Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry Penang branch director, S. Jegan, reported that his team conducted a raid on a supermarket in Sungai Jawi, Nibong Tebal, which was hoarding 1kg polybags of subsidised cooking oil and selling them to foreign workers at a significant profit. The enforcement team, after a week-long surveillance, executed the raid at 4pm.
“In the raid, we found 4,480kg of 1kg oil packages, which exceeded the permitted retail limit of 1,000kg and the reason the trader gave was that he kept a lot of stock to facilitate his transactions,” Jegan said today.
