CAPCOM has confirmed that there will be more remakes of old Resident Evil games.

According to a report by IGN Japan, who attended the recent PlayStation Partner Awards 2023, the video game company confirmed the news following the trend it has established with 2019’s Resident Evil 2, 2020’s Resident Evil 3 and this year’s Resident Evil 4.

Asked if Capcom intends to continue remaking the franchise’s older games, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo said, “Yes,” before saying it was due to how the three remakes have been received well.

“Since remaking the games allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone who loves these older games and we want to continue doing more,” IGN translated.

“What game we will remake in the future is something that we would like to announce in the future, so please look forward to it.”

The next numbered entry, 2009’s Resident Evil 5 features one of the most infamous campy moments in the franchise, where one of the game’s two lead playable characters, Chris Redfield, punches a boulder three times his size while inside an active volcano.

Given that the popular numbered games have now been largely covered, older Resident Evil spinoffs might be the focus. Another entry that Capcom might look towards remaking is the fan-favourite Resident Evil Code: Veronica from 2000.
